The Michigan Property & Casualty Guaranty Association (“MPCGA”) is an unincorporated association of all property and casualty insurers authorized to transact insurance in Michigan. The MPCGA was created by an act of the Michigan Legislature, ‘MCL 500.7901’ et seq., in order to protect the public against financial losses to policy holder and claimants as a result of property and casualty insurance company insolvencies. When a member insurer becomes insolvent, MPCGA has a duty to pay certain obligations of the insolvent insurer that come within the Act’s definition of covered claims. MPCGA does not handle claims arising out of life or disability insurance or annuity contracts.
SUPERVISOR
MPCGA is seeking a skilled and motivated Claims Supervisor with the preferred Workers’ Compensation claims experience to join our team. This role will oversee claims personnel responsible for the investigation, resolution, and processing of claims. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in Workers’ Compensation, Personal Injury Protection (PIP), and/or Liability, with a strong background in handling residential and commercial claims in the State of Michigan.
The Job Duties and Qualifications:
An Ideal candidate will possess:
8-10 years of claims adjusting experience in the Workers’ Compensation, PIP, and/or Liability.
3+ years in Sr. Adjuster experience.
3+ years of leadership experience.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred in a business-related field.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Our claims professionals are required to be licensed in the State of Michigan to perform the job functions and MPCGA will assist and pay for the license including renewal each year. If the candidate does not have an adjuster’s license in the State of Michigan, the candidate must obtain the license within the first 6 months of employment as conditional for continued employment. Designations of CPCU and AIC are desired but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervising and mentoring claims personnel, supporting their growth and helping them reach their full potential.
- Oversee daily claims operations, ensuring compliance with best practices and industry standards.
- Manage complex and high-exposure claims, including both litigation and non-litigation matters.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to streamline processes and enhance service delivery.
- Approve settlement recommendations, check requests, and related expenses within designated authority levels.
- Drive subrogation and recovery efforts to minimize loss costs.
- Provide guidance on claim strategies in collaboration with attorneys, adjusters, and other involved parties.
This position may have direct oversight of exempt and/or nonexempt employees and is responsible for their daily execution of tasks necessary for the organization to succeed in its operations. Handles workflow assignments and is first point of contact for employee questions/issues.
Computer Skills
Proficient in using Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Outlook and MS Teams. Having some knowledge in utilizing claims systems. The candidate will work in the office and remote (after training period). The ideal candidate must be proficient in the current role and have the ability to work from home having online capabilities.

CLAIMS ADJUSTER II
MPCGA is seeking an experienced Claims Adjuster with a strong background in Workers’ Compensation (WC) claims. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing WC claims in compliance with Michigan state regulations and industry best practices.
The Job Duties and Qualifications:
5+ years of claims adjusting experience in the workers’ compensation field is preferred with combined PIP/liability experience.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred in a business-related field.
The Claims Adjuster will handle multiple types of claims. Ensures claims presented are handled appropriately by reviewing all necessary records, laws and information to provide appropriate coverage available within the policy while applying any applicable endorsements outlined in the policy and statutes in accordance with the MPCGA Act. Ensures claims investigation and processing are conducted under state laws and regulations including subrogation and recovery efforts. Handles and resolves claims according to type of insurance, including corresponding with claimant and/or counsel, works with Nurse Case Managers, review of medical records, retention of expert witnesses and determining the ultimate exposure of each claim. Provides direction on litigated matters.
Key Qualifications:
- Proven experience handling Workers’ Compensation claims, preferably within the State of Michigan.
- Strong knowledge of Michigan WC laws, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to manage claims efficiently from initial investigation through resolution.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and documentation skills.
